Older adults (those age 55 and older) are the fastest growing demographic in Central Indiana. Approximately 20,000 individuals in Central Indiana reach the age of 60 every year. By the year 2030, one in every five residents in the state will be over the age of 65. To enhance the ability of older adults to live and thrive in Central Indiana, it is important to understand the population trends, notable changes, and basic needs of this growing demographic. To this end, the Central Indiana Senior Fund (CISF), a fund of the Central Indiana Community Foundation, partners with The Polis Center, the IU Center for Aging Research (ICAR), and the IU Public Policy Institute’s (PPI) Center for Research on Inclusion and Social Policy to develop the annual State of Aging in Central Indiana Report. 

This study assesses and reports the needs, disparities, and emerging issues related to the growing older adult population in Central Indiana. The effort also features research briefs into critical issues facing older adults, community forums, and an online information portal. An interactive profile is an easy-to-use dashboard that allows you to map, visualize, and explore detailed data about older adults in your local community. Every topic covered in the report is included, but you can dig deeper by viewing trends, breaking down indicators by race, age, and gender, and comparing across geographies. All data in the dashboard can be easily downloaded.
