Biography

Kevin Mickey serves as director of geoinformatics at The Polis Center, where he leads strategic engagement and partnership development with government agencies, universities, nonprofit organizations and private-sector partners. He builds and sustains collaborative relationships that expand research and project opportunities while overseeing a diverse portfolio of initiatives focused on crisis management, hazard mitigation and community resilience.

As an adjunct faculty member in the Luddy School of Informatics, Computing, and Engineering at Indiana University Indianapolis, Kevin teaches undergraduate and graduate courses on social science data, the role of nonprofit organizations in crisis management, and methods for modeling the impacts of disasters and other crises.

Kevin is a past president of the Geospatial Professional Network (GPN), formerly the Urban and Regional Information Systems Association (URISA), and currently serves as co-chair of the GPN Community Resilience Workgroup. During his tenure with the organization, he held numerous leadership roles, including committee chair positions. His contributions to the geospatial profession have been recognized with several honors, including the URISA Leadership Award.

Beyond GPN, Kevin has served in leadership roles at the national and state levels. He is a past chair of the Multihazard Mitigation Council of the National Institute of Building Sciences, a former member of the Indiana Geographic Information Council Board of Directors and a former member of the National Visiting Committee for the National GeoTech Center of Excellence. Through these roles, he has advanced geospatial innovation, hazard mitigation and resilience planning for communities and organizations across the country.
